This past weekend was fun.   We when to an orchard and a car show,  I can’t wait to share you my photography from the past week. This week is a almost a full week of school, yes Wednesday is a Jewish Yom Kippur.   Next week is a full week of school.  Last night,  I sent the night working with my son on his Spanish test.  I think by the end of him taking this class, I am going to be fluent in Spanish.  It is going to be a long and grueling 2-4 years,  because he has to learn how to spell the words.  Clearly not a strong point of his  and or mine so learning in a second languages will be fun not.

Martha Stewart is Coming to Philly

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my ownMartha Stewart and Thomas Joseph are hosting a special cooking demonstration as Martha shares secrets and tips from her new recipes in her latest cookbook, Appetizers at Macys City Center Philly

Martha Stewart’s book signing 2015  at Macys  in Philly! :  I have been a huge Martha Stewart fan for years all way back to when I was 1st out of college and looking for a job.  Everyday,  I would religiously watch Martha Stewart,  my husband would come home and say “What did you make of Martha’s today?” I would make a dried apple rings wreath or some fabulous poultry cooked on wood twigs.  My obsession with all things Martha finally needed intervention when,   I cut up my husbands sweatshirt to make gloves Martha featured on the show that day..

My Husband said   as he held his newly created sleeveless sweatshirt. “We need to find you a job!”

20 years later I am still loving all things Martha Stewart.

I have had the privilege see Martha in person 2 twice. Both during a filming of her shows.   She is amazing to watch live, she is force, witty,  and very funny. Watching either her cook or create is like having you elegant aunt in the room.  You can feel the refinement you want to learn and duplicate.

Do you want to meet her with me?  Also try her food,  and you live in Philly?  Next Thursday is your chance to Meet Martha at a Free Event at Macys Center City,

Chef Marcus Samuelsson

Chef Marcus Samuelsson cooking tips:  This past Thursday I when to a Macy’s Culinary Council Table talk I was able to hear Chef Marcus Samuelsson speak.  He was really charming and fun.  It was a great free event for the public. The chefs food was super yummy and the presentations of the dishes was spot were beautiful  all the actualy dishes were made out of bamboo, so cool.

During the event Chef Marcus Samuelsson provided some great cooking tips

10 Great Cooking tips from Chef Marcus Samuelsson

Chef Marcus Samuelsson cooking tips

  1. To get the best fresh fish always ask fish monger for Sushi Grade fish
  2. Always ask for fish with bone in.  When you take the bones out add to water and make your own stock in about 2 hours of simmering
  3. With stock you make add some miso, then add veggies, tofu, or noddle for a simple meal
  4. When you make any meal you can think about left overs for your next meal
  5. Left over rice: rinse rice toss in Rice Flour or corn starch then pan fry with oil or butter for crispy fried rice add veggies and protein
  6. Want a more vegan diet try pecans w/ sour cherry’s fry them up great meal
  7. Spices and seasoning  keep in darkroom or dark space
  8. Try grinding your own Chili peppers,  flavored Salt,  pepper, or Curry
  9. Try a store bought mole for a easy meal with big flavor great on chicken
  10. Cooks tool must have wok, cast iron pan, Dutch oven, non stick pan
  11. Cast Iron pans do not put in dishwasher,  the older the pan the better season with oil and air dry

He also spoke about a creating a spiritual relationship with your food. That the best food invokes emotion or a memory.  He mentioned if you grew up the 80’s it might be tacos.. I had to laugh because that reminded me of my childhood.  Taco night is the best.

I really thought the event was fun and we learned many new ideas.

How to make Barbecue Bagel Chips

how to make barbeque bagel chips

How to make Barbecue Bagel Chips: This past Friday was the 4th grade breakfast.  I love going to the school parent breakfast, every year for the last 9 years I have gone.  First with my son and now with my daughter, this is the last one as my daughter moves  on to the next school.   So after me feeling teary as we leave the middle school it is the end of an era.

Their were 100 or so bagels that we left after the kid and parents were done. The PTO president said the teacher were never going to eat all those bagels. I mention to a mom earlier about  my teach boy.  Next thing I knew, I was taking 20 or so bagels home.   So when life gives you day old bagel you make bagel chips.

My son is a huge fan of barbeque potato chips.  After the third  batch of chips  from my oven I figured out what works best to dry out the sauce and make a great barbeque bagel chips.

How to make Barbecue Bagel Chips

Ingredients

  • 3 Day Old Bagels (or more)
  • 1/4 cup of your favorite barbeque sauce

The trick is low and slow to cook the chips

  1. Preheat over 325
  2. Slice the bagel thin the thinner the better it allows them to become crispy

How to make bagel chips sliced them thin

  1. Line on a parchment lined baking sheet
  2. Brush on the barbecue sauce  (or us the back of a spoon) thin do not goop it on thick- like it did int he picture .. it tends to burn and become sticky. How to make barbeque bagel chips
  3. Cook for 25 minutes
  4. Allow to cook and store
  5. They should last a week if them they it that long in your home

bagel_chips_1_013_0011-12

Try other varieties of bagel chips

  • Brush on oil and sprinkle salt cook the same as above
  • Brush oil and use Parmigiano Reggiano cheese (does get dark)
  • try a sweet flavored or plain bagel with oil and cinnamon or powder chocolate
  • I loved the marbled rye chipHow to make barbeque bagel chips

  • Tuesday: Pork chops, corn and cucumber salad
