Submarine Kids Girls Fall 2013

I was recently provided by Submarine Kids some clothes to review for Fall 2013. The Designer contacted me and asked if I would like to review and give my honest opinion about their boutique clothes. As you may or may not know my background is in Fashion, I was a former fashion designer and I love clothes. For me having a daughter is awesome, because it is like have my own life size doll.. with a little attitude. So when Deborah at Submarine kids contacted me my daughter and I jumped at the chance to work with them.

Deborah sent me the hottest offering in their line this Fall. The Lips shirt and harem pants.The lips shirt is great. I love Submarine Kids fresh Rock star look- Loose and casual but edge. Submarine realizes that girls want to be fun and free but hip and stylish. This shirt offers both. The light weight slub yarn knit shirt, is light and airy so great for schools where the heat is either blasting at hot temperatures or cooler. This Shirt’s 3/4 length sleeve is great not to drag in those school art class projects. The neck is a boat neck so non constricting for those kids that don’t like tight necks.The Lip embellishment is printed on and the teeth detailed with sequins and bugle beads. This detail of the extra bugle bead is the high end difference between what you find on a boutique brand kids clothes vs a mas market retailer that does not take the care to do more detailed work. The harem style pants are Fantastic. Bring girls to a loose fit flowing fabric that allows for a girl to be fun and move. My daughter Loves these pants. The have pockets with a faux leather inset and stretch Faux leather waistband. Also a faux leather side panel is great detail, leading down to the cuff on the pants. I like these pants because there is room to grow a few inches because of the cuff. The Pant pant fabric is a silky knit so it feel great on my daughters skin. I would love a pair of these pants for me.

I have to say we really loved Submarine Kids clothes. They were fun and age appropriate for my daughter who is in 3rd grade and wants to grow up fast. I loved the quality and cant wait to see what this new band comes up with next. I love where they are going with the clothing line.

Getting Gorgeous 2013

A few weekends I attend the Getting Gorgeous meet up sponsored by CVS. It was a super fun day. Since I will be launching my new blog Big Girls Guide- A plus size blog for moms. I was excited to meet and learn about some wonderful new brands.

The Getting Gorgeous Event was Hosted Audrey McClelland and Vera Sweeney. These ladies put on an amazing day featuring beauty and style.

CVS was the title Sponsor of the event. We got to try out some amazing BB creams. BB creams if you have not tried them they are a fun product. The are face creams that act as a moisturizer, foundation, primer, and smooths out your tone. They had a wide selection from, age defining, to ones with great spfs.

Also they had a some great hair thickening products. Like the Nexus weightless thickener and Salma Hayek beauty products.

Thyme Maternity was there is which is available at BabiesRUs. I love the style of the clothes check out this dress super cute for the church or a baby shower. I also loved this shirt.

CooliBar was also there they Are a sun protection company. They have everything you need not just Swimsuits but Hats and great Light weight clothes in amazing breathable fabric. Here are some pictures of Hats and this dress don’t you love it.

Also I got a chance to meet with Jade and Jasper. I am in love with there jewelry I already Featured it on BigGirlsGuide. Check it out we will be hosting a Give Away for the amazing Jade and Jasper Jewelry on BigGirlsGuide in the next week so be sure to Check it out.

I also got to meet Thread and Butter an AMAZING Plus Size Line Made in the US. Here are a few pieces I loved. Thread and Butter will also be working with BigGirlsGiude. so be sure to sign up for BBG email alerts to learn more about Thread and Butter I will be working with them on a very special project to dress a special Plus Size blogger Dresden at Creating Motherhood. .

On the saucy-er side Bacardi was there with their new Light Classic Cocktail lines They taste great. I love the Mojoti and no mixer needed. I know I am buying this cocktail this summer.

Foster Grants was also in attendance for all your eyeglass needs.

Stella Cove #fashionfriday

I was asked if I would like to review the Stella Cove for my daughter. Hello speaking my language: beautiful, fashionable, high quality, bathing suit for my daughter, who happens to swim almost every week day? I am so in. As you know I am a former Fashion designer, so I love love.. to dress my doll .. I mean Daughter. She is a ton of fun to dress. This Stella Cove suit did not disappoint.

When the Stella Cove suit arrived I showed it to my daughter, as she squealed in delight. She could not wait to wear it and was excited to try it out in the pool. The Style is Salvatore swimsuit it is a covered it shoes ..can it be any more fabulous for a little girl.

The white suit is lined, and the printed fabric is The fabric is a 50+ SPF rating. The Stella Coves Swim suits body openings elastic is covered in fabric so it never touches your little princesses body. I see no elastic rashes in sight, because of the beautiful care taken in manufacturing.

The stapes are encased / tunneled , (aka there is not visible stitch on the strap) making it smooth and round, so it does not leave nasty elastic marks on her shoulders. The strap is also adjustable, the looper for the straps which make it adjustable are powder coated metal (aluminum) So it will not rust and will not brake like plastic. Love the high end quality!

The fit on these suit are a smaller European fit. Stella and Cove recommends going up a size. My daughter is wear 10/11 we opted for a size 12 which will fit her great all summer. She has worn the suit several times and it washes up great. We have been rinsing the suit out with clean water, and hand washing when needed.

Skechers Shoe Review: Hydee Plus 2

Recently Skechers sent me a free Pair of Girls Hydee Plus 2 Sneakers for a review, the opinions are stated in this Post about Skechers Hydee Plus 2 sneakers are my own.

We received the sneakers in the mail and my daughter total flipped she put them on immediately and was so excited. I am not sure if you know this but as blogger we try to photography review items prior to use. So after telling my daughter to take them off.. (like 6) times because she did not want to part with the Skechers. She started looking through the box. There was a Hydee and the Hytops comic book included which she read from cover to cover. The even have a web series about the Hydee and the hytops.

But I digress.. The Skechers Hydee Plus s Sneaker are super fun they are fun spring colors. We received a grey, aqua, and hot pink. They Hydee Plus 2 also comes in a Pink and Natural Shoe. The sneakers also have a glittery fabric which is what attacked my daughter.. why girl does not love glitter. She also loves how easy

Skechers Hydee Have a secret in the heel they have a wedge. Making your girl taller. My daughter loves the fact she towers over everyone else. She also love the fact you cann’t see the wedge. The shoes make her feel empowered with height. Sizes start for age 6 and up.

Lindsay Phillips Ballet Flat Review

I recently had the opportunity to review Lindsay Phillips Ballet Flat with snap on entitlements, I love these shoes they are comfy and fashionable. They are prefect for this spring. These shoes have a Fashion feature snap embellishment options, which make the choices of Lindsay Phillips shoes endless.

The Lindsay Phillips shoes are made of quality materials. I received the Liz Ballet flat in Neutral Canvas. The color is great for the spring and compliments many colors. The lovely option of these flats are the snap embellishments. The shoes come with a zipper like rosette. The rosettes snap off and you can change them to many different available optional snaps. Purchased separately the snaps options are fantastic. You can quickly change your Lindsay Phillips shoe snap to coordinate with many outfits and jewelery. For a head to toe finished fashionable look. The company even have a Mystery 5 or 10 pack of snaps available for purchase, I love that Idea because I was having a hard time choosing.

A little history of Lindsay Phillips started the idea company as a flip flop shoe project in ceramics in High School. She then went to college thinking about the interchange able Flip flop. After graduating she worked for Ralph Lauren, then with an investment from her mother she started her own company. The Switch Flop is a flip flop was her first big seller, it uses hook and loop tapes which allows you to change the straps and front embellishments on your Switch flop. The are super cute fun and flirty. Lindsay built a multimillion dollar company catering to women’s needs for more shoe looks. Yea! women owned business.

Back to these stellar flats, I love the idea that the shoes I received are so comfy and fit in my budget ($64). With the ablity to change the look they are great for traveling, because they are easy packable and flexible to my busy life style. Great for my everyday fashion.

I received 2 different embellished snaps with my shoes. The Audra Snap (sale for $9) which are a great emerald color and Dorothy Snap ($15.95) which are a raffia like with a great gem in the middle. I love also they idea that that Lindsay Phillips offer a variety of shoes so you can use the snaps on the wedges, heels, and switch flops year round. So you want to know how easy they are to use. Every year I get invited to attend a party with the kids then we go trick treating afterwards. So how to look stylish on Halloween with out breaking the bank. I stopped by Marshalls and found some items to make any trick or treating mom look fashionable.

This leopard jacket is only 29.99 at Marshalls the lamb lined leather like bomber jacket is 79.99 bot would look great with jeans

What to wear under the jacket check out these sweater, fun Halloween color minus the little pumpkin embroidered on the front.

There shoes are a steal at $14.99 for the orange or houndstooth pair. The black pair are a studded Frankenstein feel.

So there was a time before my current life of Kids, superhero capes, and blogging. When I designed clothes.. I am a award winning fashion designer. This past week I was asked to bring out my Senior collection from College to share in a plaid exhibit at Philadelphia University. So out it came. It was great seeing it all set up again brought back a fun time in my life.

My collection is a ski wear group. I designed all the sweaters and made everything including the hats. The clothes are all made out real ski wear fabric at the time it was a major investment financially in my future. I loved this collection it was a true labor of love and many sleepless nights. When I was awarded best senior collection then asked to show my collection around Philadelphia including John Wanamaker (when it was open) it was amazing. I ended up after college Going into Athletic wear and Team sports. I worked as a Design Assistant, Designer, Development Director and more 15 years in the apparel industry.

The evening was fun I was able to reconnect with a fellow design graduate Kate Scache and my mentor professor Clara Henry Show below.

My advise for a Aspiring Fashion Designer:

One of the younger graduates asked me a few questions, one that stuck with me was “When did you start making decision in your career?”

My response:

” I always worked for company’s where I could affect change, medium to small companies (under $50 mil in sales) .. I always felt working for smaller companies allowed for greater opportunity”

If your child wanted to go into fashion design or costume design.. My advice is start them sewing and drawing early. So they are not behind the curve when entering college. Also there are jobs in the apparel industry (which was my parents biggest concern) .. not every designer is Channel .. but every one has to wear clothes.

My Runway Momment

So this past week I walked the Runway at the Fashion Forward Conference. If you read my post on Tues about Facing Fears, I was concerned about walking..I did not trip!! The conference is about fashion for women who are not 20 something that are mothers and bloggers. The brand that provided the clothes was Sonsi and the women who styled me was RedBooks Stylist.

I also had Caitlin Wooters – Makeup Artist work on my face, she was great and spent time get the right make up for my walk and still being appropriate for a women over 40. I also got my hair in a side pony by Robert Stewart Salon.

So I faced my fears and walked check out the Ivillage Video.

Bodyography Primer -Full Size smooth and works wonderful as a primer
All Natural Face Vegan Eye shadow Peach ice- Full size is great to use as a high lighter on the upper eyelid. I also used a bit on my upper cheek under eye them applied the primer to giver a under skin radiant glow.
Miracle Hair mask- sample size (you got 2 samples)We so need this after the summer of harsh chemicals with the pool water and salt water I perked mine and my daughters hair back to a healthy shiny state. So we are ready for fall.
