Thankful for 2010

self portrait

This 2010 has been an awesome year because it was not last year and any thing is better than last year. One of these days I will discuss last year and how it changed my life  but for me it is not now. Last year is done and this year was amazing.

I am thankful for the following:

  1. My family– I know a given
  2. My health and family health, after 2009 this is a blessing that changed my life it is all good long as you are healthy
  3. My husband being home-  He lost his job but it is a blessing,  because we have reconnected and I love having him around.
  4. Our resilience as a family
  5. Amazing new friends “that get you” no excuses necessary
  6. Wonderful old friends that know where you have been and know you better than everyone because they know it all.
  7. Our new dog Grundy– Got him the last days of 2009 but still a blessing-most days
  8. A summer with family- Our permanent camping site- was a retreat  for all to relax and get away- it was also paid for prior to job loss-bonus
  9. An amazing Bussiness that I love and so glad I own and it is all ours.
  10. Strangers that show you a new way to give
  11. Comfort level to be myself in spite of myself  and loving that I have the strength to do so.

  13. Peace found in the eyes of a loved one.

What is it for you.. is this year good or not so good?    I want to hear your thoughts.

Why I am a boy Mom

Blond_boy_beach
I was on The Motherhood recently joined a circle called Boy Moms The MOB.

My post read intro to the group was “I am new here I am a boy mom.  I have a girl but my 1st was a boy so I think of my self is a a boy mom,   I only had a boy for 4 years, so my training was boy.”

Now I don’t know if girl mom’s realize this, but there is a difference between raising boys and raising girls at a early age.  Boys are loud and active for the most part.  I have 2 friends BMom has 2 boys a year apart and  GMom has 2 girls a year apart.  BMom and GMom  get together  for the occasional  party.

One day GMom reiterated to BMom  what her” husband”  said about their previous get together  “Wow BMom’s boys are so loud and move all the time.  He was happy for the girls.”   imply the burden of boys.

BMom shared this with me,  knowing that I understood boys, we both shook our heads and giggled.

Young  GMom’s,  I have encountered think it is the boys lack of supervision or discipline.  That more discipline is required.

I have been told directly “you need to discipline more so he behaves like little Suzy”.

But BMom know better it is a boy, that is how their sons are built.  Boys are active, busy, and move all the time.   Unless you have a boy,  you do not really understand this.     We are trained from day 1 that boys are busy and girls are “developed”  (because girl moms point it out how much more well behaved and developed their daughter is… we all know girls develop faster than boys. So no need to point it out in polite conversation.)  Even in the NICU, when I had my daughter the nurses told me don’t worry she is a girl, the girls always are the 1st to leave.

I recently heard a Gmom friend pass judgment on another boy but honestly,  I was not sure my son would be any different given the circumstances and I said so.  I am not saying you don’t need to supervise  and chalk it up to “thats a boy”.  You do need to supervise  and discipline, but sometimes it is not enough because “they are boy”. In spite of themselves.

The more learn the less I can judge. When your kids are young,  you think you know it all. The older they get the less you know and realize you knew nothing when they were young.  Parenting is a journey and I am loving the ride.

I would love to hear your thoughts?

Are you boy or girl parent?
