Preteen Dresses: Age Appropriate Fashions from Kate Mack

We recently received a sample of this wonderful Kate Mack dress to review. I am a huge fan of Kate Mack/Biscotti clothing. My daughter has been wearing their clothes since she was a baby. I loved the originally ballerina bathing suit that she we purchased over 9 years ago, she was the hit of the local pool, before every big box store made a version of the bathing suit the original version was a Biscotti. Isn’t she cute at 3? I love the new line of Biscotti Ballerina swimsuits it makes me wish my daughter was younger, how time flys?

Now that my daughter is a PreTeen turning 11 this week, it is getting harder to find dresses that are age appropriate for her made of quality material. (I am not a fan of thin poly knit dresses). My daughter is also tall for her age, between issues with size and style it is difficult to located a dress for her that is not too revealing.

I was very excited to receive this fun Kate Mack Dress my daughter is a size 16. She also loves the fun shape of this dress. It’s handkerchief hem and bold black & white with a splash of color is perfect for a girl her age. The fabric is a stretch knit that is super comfortable to wear. She can look dressy and casual all spring/summer.

The dress is trimmed hot pink binding around the neck and armholes. With a T back for a sporty look this is perfect so the girls don’t to have to fight with straps. Also, if the child get a sun burn while wearing a competitive swimsuit this dress won’t hurt the burn.. (this is an issue that I am very familiar with). The fabric is a mid-weight comb cotton spandex, which means it is super soft and wonderful to wear.

The flowers are also knit spandex as well..so, no fraying of the flowers during washing. Kate Mack and Biscotti knows quality sewing and after my many years working in apparel, I can tell you when something is well made. This dress is worth it’s boutique price tag.

I love J Jill the uncomplicated clothing brand, of the styling, the fabric, and way it makes being me effortless. So when I was asked to write a sponsored post I jumped at the chance. A brand that has women in mind, thinking about our lives and what will work for our style. I was able to learn about JJill: Pure Jill collection directly from the head designer of the Pure Jill collection. Being a former fashion person myself I loved learning about the process JJill uses when designing the Pure Jill collection.

The J Jill Designer was inspire by her world, nature, and environmental texture. She said she looked at rocks and trees which developed the texture to the natural fabrics. The Fall 2013 Pure Jill collection was heavily inspired by Birch Bark and how it peels of the trees, the layers, and its colors. The easy of layering clothes is a strong look for Pure Jill. Wearing one of the designs is new Kimono Sweaters with thin jersey top and an great infinity scarf.. makes every day dressing for women relaxed and styled with ease. I love how uncomplicated J Jill make clothing for me.

JJills is really focusing on the plus size women, and this season is offering some great looks in the Pure Jill plus size collection. The designer told me to insure the right fit for the Bigger Girl, JJill are talking to focus groups of plus size women to see what they prefer. The also are create specs that are developed for a plus size women rather then merely just up sizing smaller styles. I love it! because as a plus size women I have different sizing concerns than a smaller women, like is the style long enough to cover my tummy or hide my behind. With a resounding yes, JJill is addressing a plus size women’s dressing concerns.

The top is a Light weight knit so a great transitional layer piece. The fabric soft and loose so easy wear. I purchased a 2x. This wonderful top I styled 3 different ways, which it the best part about JJill Pure Jill collection ti fit with what you own making you look classic and modern.

First I paired The Pure Jill High Low Pullover with a gold printed jean great for those holiday season nights out.Next I paired the Sweater with a Basic Jean and some Leopard flat. This is my easy Pick up the kids from school. The Last Looks is the J Jill Pure Jill High Lo Sweater paired with a Pencil skirt and the Pure Jill crinkle infinity scarf $29 in a dark charcoal heather.The Infinity scarf is such a great basic for this season. I can add it to any tee and look polished it also is a great way to add a focal point to your outfit. So that ones eyes are directed towards your face.

I really loved learning about the J Jill Pure Jill collection. The Stores and On line catalog have a so much to offer women who want to just wake up in the morning and Have what to wear. Submarine Kids Girls Fall 2013

I was recently provided by Submarine Kids some clothes to review for Fall 2013. The Designer contacted me and asked if I would like to review and give my honest opinion about their boutique clothes. As you may or may not know my background is in Fashion, I was a former fashion designer and I love clothes. For me having a daughter is awesome, because it is like have my own life size doll.. with a little attitude. So when Deborah at Submarine kids contacted me my daughter and I jumped at the chance to work with them.

Deborah sent me the hottest offering in their line this Fall. The Lips shirt and harem pants.The lips shirt is great. I love Submarine Kids fresh Rock star look- Loose and casual but edge. Submarine realizes that girls want to be fun and free but hip and stylish. This shirt offers both. The light weight slub yarn knit shirt, is light and airy so great for schools where the heat is either blasting at hot temperatures or cooler. This Shirt’s 3/4 length sleeve is great not to drag in those school art class projects. The neck is a boat neck so non constricting for those kids that don’t like tight necks.The Lip embellishment is printed on and the teeth detailed with sequins and bugle beads. This detail of the extra bugle bead is the high end difference between what you find on a boutique brand kids clothes vs a mas market retailer that does not take the care to do more detailed work. The harem style pants are Fantastic. Bring girls to a loose fit flowing fabric that allows for a girl to be fun and move. My daughter Loves these pants. The have pockets with a faux leather inset and stretch Faux leather waistband. Also a faux leather side panel is great detail, leading down to the cuff on the pants. I like these pants because there is room to grow a few inches because of the cuff. The Pant pant fabric is a silky knit so it feel great on my daughters skin. I would love a pair of these pants for me.

I have to say we really loved Submarine Kids clothes. They were fun and age appropriate for my daughter who is in 3rd grade and wants to grow up fast. I loved the quality and cant wait to see what this new band comes up with next. I love where they are going with the clothing line.

Lindsay Phillips Ballet Flat Review

I recently had the opportunity to review Lindsay Phillips Ballet Flat with snap on entitlements, I love these shoes they are comfy and fashionable. They are prefect for this spring. These shoes have a Fashion feature snap embellishment options, which make the choices of Lindsay Phillips shoes endless.

The Lindsay Phillips shoes are made of quality materials. I received the Liz Ballet flat in Neutral Canvas. The color is great for the spring and compliments many colors. The lovely option of these flats are the snap embellishments. The shoes come with a zipper like rosette. The rosettes snap off and you can change them to many different available optional snaps. Purchased separately the snaps options are fantastic. You can quickly change your Lindsay Phillips shoe snap to coordinate with many outfits and jewelery. For a head to toe finished fashionable look. The company even have a Mystery 5 or 10 pack of snaps available for purchase, I love that Idea because I was having a hard time choosing.

A little history of Lindsay Phillips started the idea company as a flip flop shoe project in ceramics in High School. She then went to college thinking about the interchange able Flip flop. After graduating she worked for Ralph Lauren, then with an investment from her mother she started her own company. The Switch Flop is a flip flop was her first big seller, it uses hook and loop tapes which allows you to change the straps and front embellishments on your Switch flop. The are super cute fun and flirty. Lindsay built a multimillion dollar company catering to women’s needs for more shoe looks. Yea! women owned business.

Back to these stellar flats, I love the idea that the shoes I received are so comfy and fit in my budget ($64). With the ablity to change the look they are great for traveling, because they are easy packable and flexible to my busy life style. Great for my everyday fashion.

I received 2 different embellished snaps with my shoes. The Audra Snap (sale for $9) which are a great emerald color and Dorothy Snap ($15.95) which are a raffia like with a great gem in the middle. I love also they idea that that Lindsay Phillips offer a variety of shoes so you can use the snaps on the wedges, heels, and switch flops year round. So you want to know how easy they are to use. Every year I get invited to attend a party with the kids then we go trick treating afterwards. So how to look stylish on Halloween with out breaking the bank. I stopped by Marshalls and found some items to make any trick or treating mom look fashionable.

This leopard jacket is only 29.99 at Marshalls the lamb lined leather like bomber jacket is 79.99 bot would look great with jeans

What to wear under the jacket check out these sweater, fun Halloween color minus the little pumpkin embroidered on the front.

There shoes are a steal at $14.99 for the orange or houndstooth pair. The black pair are a studded Frankenstein feel.

My Runway Momment

So this past week I walked the Runway at the Fashion Forward Conference. If you read my post on Tues about Facing Fears, I was concerned about walking..I did not trip!! The conference is about fashion for women who are not 20 something that are mothers and bloggers. The brand that provided the clothes was Sonsi and the women who styled me was RedBooks Stylist.

I also had Caitlin Wooters – Makeup Artist work on my face, she was great and spent time get the right make up for my walk and still being appropriate for a women over 40. I also got my hair in a side pony by Robert Stewart Salon.

So I faced my fears and walked check out the Ivillage Video.

7 ways to wear Red Plus Size Pants Lands End Chino

When Lands Ends contacted me to review there chinos I jumped at the chance. I wanted to have a pair of red pants. so What do I love about Lands End Chinos. I am a size 22 and 5’10″+ so length and fit are really important. So I order off of my measurement. The pants fit perfect the the other thing is I have a bit of a tummy so a little support is important to me. The Lands End chino I choose was Women’s Plus Size Exhale™ Tummy Control Stretch Chino Boot-cut Pant

As a big girl, I was always told don’t wear bights on the bottom, it will make you look bigger. These pants were designed with a bigger girl in mind, they look current fresh and flattering such a change from always wearing black. They fit great, they have a built in tummy (exhale) control panel, it is like shapeware in your pants. The Exhale tummy control, gives you a smoother shape, which makes you look thiner. Smoke and mirrors for you gut. The pants came up high enough to avoid the roll top (muffin top). The length was perfect. which is huge for me, Lands End hems the pants for you just provide your inseam. The Cost of the pants is $75, hemming is included. These pants are sure to be a staple for me this fall.

Here are 7 ways I show my personal style with the Lands Ends Chinos: Using some of the items in my own closet, and pairing them with the red chinos.

Flowered chiffon shirt, brown leather sandals, brown leather purse, gold and wood jewelry I cant wait to wear this outfit when I got out for lunch.

This is my wear around town, tan trench, red and off white striped knit top, gold jewelry, paired with a nude wedge.

This is a great outfit for going to event in the City.

This is my boyish look with a boyfriend shirt, plaid tie, yellow purse, and black sneakers.

This is my Fabulous 40 and sparkle- the older I get the more sparkle I want. I love the pop of color of the chinos. I am wearing a sparkle tank , Black sweater, black patent leather pumps, with sparkle on the base. The clutch matches the shoes. I choose silver jewelry. I can see me going out for cocktails in this outfit.

This is my labor day outfit, my American look. Navy and white tanks, gold circle, and my could not resist USA shoes waiting
for the perfect outfit.

The shoes finally found the right pants.

the red pants paired with a Grey Cami, a teal cardigan, gun metal necklace and earrings, and ultra suede shoes.

So this late fall when we head out for looking a leaves my red chinos paired with my oversize sweater will be a great for autumn rides through the country.

I had a chance to preview some of Lands Ends new plus size collection at blogher and I am really excited about the new styles. They even have big girl boots with wider calf. My advice to you is start building your style with Lands End and buy a pair of Lands End Chinos, they will make you feel great and confidant because you are the girl in the red pants!
