Back to School with Giant

School is almost here for us in PA while many states go back to school in August our summer lasts till after labor day. I have to say I really enjoyed the lazy summer. The though of getting back to making lunches and rush of morning does not thrill me. I often think my son and daughter are always rushing to have a healthy lunch. Both of my kids have told me they really do not enjoy the school lunches and the wait in lines and have enough time to eat and get to go outside for free time with friends.

This year I have paired up with Giant for a back to school reminder of lunch. Giant reminded me to include at least 3 of the 5 food groups into the kids lunch every day. Which variety is very important to my daughter who loves veggies and dipping, But I also try to incorporate whole grains and dairy. My daughter is not a sandwich kid and more of a grazer.

I love the Natures Promise brand at Giant. Not only does it make packing a lunch easy but healthy organic real fruit options. Try freezing apple sauce my daughter likes it chilled and by lunch it is the correct cool temperature for her.

Menu Planning

Menu Planning: This week is our last week of summer since the kids start next week. So we just received teacher assignments and school supply list. I never understood why they send the schedules and list out last minute. I spend the last week of summer running around and miss every sale on school supplies. My daughter is so excited to be entering the 5th grade. My son well, high school he is a moody teenager fickle about everything. I am not sure I am look forward towards this year or not the teenage years can be hard.. I will remain positive and hopeful.

School Bus Strategies: 10 tips to make riding the school bus better

School Bus Strategies: So after a long summer my youngest returns to school and the school bus today. It is almost bitter sweet because she is heading into 3rd grade, she is getting older and the days are flying by. Today was also the 1st time she was on the school bus ever. She was nervous because her brother had a hard time on the bus the 1st few weeks, when he went for the 1st time. My kids are normally walkers to school, but this year they are tearing the school down to make way for a new school, so my kid are being bused to a new location. We came up with some tips to make riding the school bus easier on her and we want to share them with you.

School Bus Strategies:

Say “Good Morning” to the Bus Driver and schoolmates when getting on bus
Sit near the front of the bus
If someone picks on you, tell the bus driver
If no action is given to bully tell teacher and parent
Do not thrown anything on or out of the bus
Stay in seat
Identify a “bus buddy” – your friend on the bus
Always tell the person if they are being mean and say ” That is not a very nice thing to say”
It is ok to stand up for someone and it is also ok not to if you are uncomfortable
Do add a tag to bookbag with Bus Number so the child does not forget

BJ Wholesale Back to School Deals

Recently I attended BJ Wholesale Club Back to School event. It was a great day learning about how BJs Wholesale Club can get my family ready for heading back to school. I was really loving the things I learned at BJ’s, Did you know they are the only wholesale club that accepts coupons. Also you can stack your coupons, meaning that you can use the BJ offer coupons with your manufactures coupons for dbl savings.. Great right. The BJ’s coupons are located right near the front door of the store.

I also learned that Bj has a ton of healthy options, like organic and gluten free.

Bj Wholesale also offer smaller quantity items so if you are buying for the college dorm room or stocking their middle school locker BJ can accommodate your need with the stock items they have. I love this for a dorm room vintage style ice maker.

They also have some great kits for your kids lunch. The one shown below from Rubbermaid has a cooler pack between the containers.

This lunch kit is Eco lunch kit is collapsible priced $9.99. I love the idea for easy storage.

I love these erasers pencils as a teacher start the year off right gift.. look erasers.

For me there was some much need back to school items. Like there great Deco lint rollers. At BJ they were$10 for 4 and Target they were $7 for 2 lint rollers. They are great keep on in your purse near the front door. They also had a great pair of boots for $29.99..

Who is Driving your Kid?

Who is driving your kids? So lately I have been wondering who I leave my kids in the hands of. Like the school bus. Now I know my district does a a good job of doing background check and working with the bus company to make sure the individuals who are driving the bus are not predators and criminals.

But I cant stand the start of school such Bus anxiety for parents students and drivers.

This week I have heard the following stories:

Problems:

A 5 grader new to the district got off at the wrong stop, she missed her stop, it was Tues. The girl stood outside in the rain and wait for her mom to pick her up 2 hours later because she did not know where she was. The little girl could have went to someones home but with stranger danger, she did not. My son said she was really nice. Shouldn’t the bus driver should have been aware who was getting on and off- training?

This morning I ended up driving my son friend to school mom works.. because the bus did not show up to pick him up.

Our sons bus came 15 minutes early to pick up the kids because he was driving by and saw them standing out if I was not early we would have missed the bus.. Why do they have a bus schedule?

Positive:

But on the flip side I was very happy with our bus driver and how a bully situation was handled on he bus this week. He actually pulled over the bus. Parents also backed him up- Great Job

I realize being a bus driver is one of the hardest jobs. Because you are transporting many kids with many personality. It is a lot to juggle while operating a large vehicle. There primary concern is getting kids home safely.
