10 Easy American Girl Crafts

My daughter loves to make Easy American Girl crafts. We have come up with some of our own crafts but also have located some great crafts to make with your kids. I have used some of these crafts at my daughters American Girl party and also for her to make on her own.

One of the simplest craft is to make a blanket Use Fleece Fabric 13″x13″ and fringe the ends with scissors like this:

How to make Sharpie Tie Dye: zacchaeus crafts

Crafts: Sharpie Tie Dye is a great craft to do with kids it is a low mess way of doing a tied dye. You make the tie dyed patterns using sharpies and alcohol. We made these shirts while teaching the bible story of Zacchaeus. The children ages ranged from 4-17 made the Sharpie tie dye zacchaeus crafts. This simple easy tie dye was a huge hit with the kids. The tree takes about an hour some kids took less time.

Sharpie tie dye : zacchaeus crafts

This craft was adapted from ArtGirlJackie

Tools :

Sharpies 16 pack with bright colors and florescent (removed the dark colors Browns, blacks, drk purples, navys)
Tee Shirt white
Large Plastic Cups(solo cups)
Rubber Bands
91% Alcohol (the 70% does not bleed correctly- I found at Rite Aid)
Small cup
Eye Dropper
Blow Dryer
cardboard to fit inside the shirt

Choose a well ventilated area or near an open window
cut the cardboard inside the shirt to protect the back side of the shirt
Place the solo cup under the upper part of the shirt open end of the cup up
Place the rubber band over the shirt around the mouth of the cup
Using the sharpie draw shapes on the tee, (only allow the lighter colors to be used hide the dark colors for the trunk till later)
Try not to use complementary colors next to each other because they will turn muddy (blue:orange, Green:Red , Yellow:purple)
Using 91% alcohol and eye dropper, drop alcohol on the sharpie.. and watch it bleed
Place another cup with a the rubber band and move cup to another area of the shirt. Repeat the sharpie tie dyes.. it dyes quickly minutes, Just remove the rubber band when the area is damp.
Repeat over and over, and you can overlap until you finish the canopy of the tree..
Use the blow dyer if needed, to dry the upper part of the shirt

How to make the Sharpie Tie Dye Tree Trunk:

Draw the trunk
Make sure cardboard in between the shirt. Use the black sparingly because it does take over the tee.
I recommend using alot of goldish color in with the brown to give the bark effect, and leave white space.
Starting from the center of the tree, drag the 91% of alcohol down the center of the trunk .. add more slowly,
As the alcohol spreads using the blow dryer stop the bleed at the edge of the trunk. Caution it spreads quickly.

This was such a fun craft for the kids to make as a bible story crafts for story of Zacchaeus, the children wore the shirts as they preformed a play. The possibilities are endless with sharpies and alcohol . I love this idea be sure to watch for more Sharpie crafts.

Valentines Keepsake Trunk and AC Moore Giveaway

Wooden Trunk covered using scrapbook paper and Mod Podge. This idea was given to me by AC Moore. The asked me to make a wooden trunk using the directions AC Moore provided. It has been years since I worked with Mod Podge and AC Moore had everything I need to make the task fun. I loved the idea of the trunk and the more I read the instructions I could not wait to try it. The inside had little cards decoupage inside.

The idea of this craft was from AC Moores designer Robin Beam.. Click here for Robins instructions Valentines Keepsake Trunk. Note: (the trunk size listed is a M the patterns and sku is for a small trunk) . I made the medium size which was larger so I adjust the templates. Robins Templates where for the small trunk.

Robin @ AC Moore did her trunk with different paper than I did. I choose 7 sheets of 12×12 scrapbooking paper open stock. (The apparel designers in me loved all the prints). But the instructions are the same.

Remove hardwear, I painted the inside and outside corners/edges.
I cut the templates, cut the scrapbook paper to size
Follow instructions added the mod podge, place paper, and smoothed out all the bubbles.
The tip Robin said about sanding the edges, the excess paper will just sand away.. seriously really rocks takes the trunk from a simple project to a quality piece. Make sure to remove all the dust from sanding, before applying next coat…..

By the time I finished I coated the Trunk with 5 different coats of Mod Podge .. I really love doing this project. I loke the medium size box it allows me to put a full 8 1/2″ X 11 Paper in it flat. My daughter keeps eyeing the box up.

3 Quick Easy Kid Christmas Crafts

Easy kids Christmas crafts : Here are 3 crafts that you make with the kids. Great to give as gifts or with cookies. I learned how to makes these crafts from our church avent fair and had to share. I love that all diffrent age kids can make these crafts they will love hanging these on you tree. My Daughter was so proud and was so happy to add to the holiday season in our home. So have fun making them with your children.

Easy kids Christmas crafts:

Paperclip angel:

Butterfly paperclips
red ribbon 7-8″ lemghts
silver pony bead

Put the ribbon through the paperclip slide on bead and knot

Wrap small safety candle with wired garland and ribbon.

Place on a plate when burning and never leave unattended and watch so candle does not burn too close tot he garland.

Tea light holder using Aleens glue to attach tissue paper to the out side of a shot glass or tea light holder.

Please never leave a candle unattended and only light with adult supervision.
