Sesame Place Great for older Kids- Review and Giveaway

kids at sesame placeSesame Place Is not just a place for little kids.  This year we attended opening day at Sesame place. I attended with my son(age 11) , my sons close friend (age12) , my daughter (age 7), and UpperCase women’s Daughter (age 5).  We love Sesame Place. Even as my children get older,  it is always a fun day for all.  We normally bring a big kid for my son to enjoy the day with, so he can ride the rides.  Every time  the friend,  is not sure because Sesame evokes a feeling from there early childhood.  But once they arrive and see how amazing Sesame Place is for all ages they relax and have a wonderful time.

Sesame Place Review

This trip, My sons friend never has ridden  a roller coaster,  the Vapor Trail was just the right size for a 1st time coaster.  My daughter choose to ride with him.. here is the before and after shot.   He loved it and could not wait to ride again.kids ready yo ride a roller coaster

Sesame Place has just as many dry rides as they do wet. So anytime of year is a great time to go.  My  kids also love climbing Nets and Climbs is always a fun place for the kids to climb and get lost in a safe way 30ft off the ground.  It is a wonderful workout.kids in a climbing net

Another big hit was the Elmos World – Free fall ride check out the faces.kids on a free fall ride

There are also some amazing shows and performances this year.  We did not attend because the age of my kids are all about the rides but they did spend a few moments posing with the various Sesame Street props.

We arrived at 10 and spent about 6 hours it was a fun action packed day.

My summer tip if you are close by is to go later in the day arrive around 3- 3:30 you save money on a twilight pass and the park is less crowded. We will stay till the park closes and the kids just go around and around on the rides because the lines are shorter.

Fitness Friday

The last few weeks I have not done a Fitness Friday post.  The reason I was on vacation.  So the accountability I normally get from the blog was not there.  I was down the shore with my In-laws.  They are major sweet eaters. There was actually $180 worth of candy purchased for the trip.

It was tough. They also had 5 dozen cookies.. yea the kind that you buy when you go to the fancy coffee shops that are about $3 each. It was so over the top in the sweet department.   See me having a tough time with all that …you bet ya.. We were talking major will power.

My MIL told me that my son asked every time he wanted something. I was happy because he was somewhat conscious of what he was eating.  I guess my family is buying my program.

So how did I do?  I only ate one cookie all week, and once the M&M were gone I was fine.  It was the Ice Cream 5 times over the course of the week.  I also found out I really love lobster bisque. I did choose salad as an option for dinner and stop myself at one slice of pizza.  So it was not as bad as it could have been.

I really should have read my Friends Trinas advice at OboyOrganics Healthy Vacation Snacks Post .  It might have helped this week.

I walk a fair amount not my normally 10K steps.. well I might off I was changing for bathing suit to clothes and I forgot to put my Fit Bit on.

I maintained my weight at 266.

This week I vow to walk more eat less.  I have been walking the kids to swim team in the morning and heading to the pool more, the end of the week camping (with a lot of hills)

Howe have you been doing since the summer heat is here?

Making Pictures to Art

girl in a feild with the wind blowingI wanted to share my favorite gift to give the grandparents. A while ago was my in laws 50th.  So as my gift I got a picture that we took done in a canvas print from CafePress.  There were awesome and I don’t normally give props but they have amazing customer service.   I bought the canvas as a Groupon.  I could not order it till Aug 11th .. the party was the Aug 20.  So I called the day after I order and asked is there anyway  they could do to get me the canvas on time. CafePress Customer Service said she will get it there for the party.  It was there the day before and my In Laws loved it.  Thanks for the great job..

So my husband order prints about a week earlier from Canvas on Demand (apparently same manufacture/company as cafepress) again it was purchased  with a groupon and they were about to expire.  I wanted picture of the kids done into art.

  1. So I took the pictures..

girl in feild wind blowing her hairboy on a boat in a river

  1. I then played with the several  pictures in PicMonkey to determine which picture I like the best then I posterized it.
  2. Save File as “Russell” from PicMonkey which is the larges picture file to your computer
  3. Then up load the new posterized version to canvas maker and order canvas

This is what we got back.. everyone thinks they are paintings.

Spend the time taking pitures this summer and find a picture that would be great to turn into art.

20 Top Tips for Blogging Conference Newbies How to find a tribe?

women sitting in chairs at a conferenceTop tips for Attending a Blogging conference and meeting new people.  It is that time of year many blogging conferences are here in the next few months. For many conference first timers or newbies the conferences scene  can be over whelming. I have attend many conferences,  and I think i am an outgoing person but I do have some trick or  tips I use to make the situation of meeting new people  easier.

20 tips for Blog Conference Newbies to creating your tribe

  1. Follow conference stream prior  to see who is going and get involved with tweeting  before the event
  2. Put your picture (that looks like you) on your business card.  It is smart and memorable,  realtors have been placing pictures on there cards for years, why ? because people remember faces not always names.bussiness cards
  3. Have business cards and hand them to people you meet-  it might feel awkward but it is necessary to be remembered. Also with everyone’s twitter handle and blog names being so similar, make it easy for people to know your name when tweeting they met you.
  4. Do make plans with on-line buddies  prior to connect at a conference aka..  plan a coffee time.
  5. Try to combined rides to airports with other bloggers. I have a friend,  who always says she meets the “new” blogging friends on the taxis to and from airport.
  6. Wear fun Jewelry – I always wear a crazy over the top ring, people know me for it. It is a conversation starter,  more people start a conversation asking me about the rings.  I have a friends who always wears a great necklace,  same reason.  I always have a big ring I spend no more then $15 on them usually $3-$5 and I wear a different one everyday.flower ring on a finger
  7. Be fabulous but be comfortable.. wear clothes you are confident but yourself. If you don’t like yourself in loud prints or your bare arms then don’t wear them because you clothing can make you feel uneasy and throw off your ability to relax.
  8. Wear comfortable shoes- not only because who want to stand, talking, and be uptight. If your feet hurt.. it make you want to go back in your room and soak your feet there is no new friends your hotel suite.
  9. Wear your hair down,  it makes you more approachable for others and feel relaxed ourselves. When you are home running behind kids I understand but you are on “you time” with no kids.  There is a reason the phrase  “let your hair down” was coined. Have Fun.
  10. Bring a fun bright scarf  to wear, people will remember it same as the jewelry but, the conference areas are cold but the outside areas are hot, airlines don’t give blankets, and you can always use it for limbo with your new Friends women posing dressed up for a picturesleeping on a plane
  11. Attend sessions and discussion session with fellow attendees. Talk
  12. Look up from your smart phone- and look people in the eye- where it is acceptable to be looking down at your phone .. you will meet more people if you dont tweet non stop.  I find at conferences and social media events, I tweet less because I am talking more.
  13. Follow the conference Hashtag “#” on twitter, that is your life-line to where and when people moving/doing – then go and see.
  14. Volunteer to pack gift “swag” bags  they are usually done on site the day before a conference starts and the conference organizers always need help.  When you see the tweet saying they are doing the packing.. go help and meet people.
  15. Hang in the common areas do not hide in your room. No one will meet you in your room. Look everyone has a name badge . Feel free to talk to others who have a badge some people that look as out of place as you feel. It is the playground when you are 6 years old,  talk to the girl playing in the sandbox. Once you have a friend then work as a team to add more people.
  16. Ask people who are hanging in the lobby to join you for a meal or drink.. I use “Hey I am heading to dinner want to come?” They might say “I have plans but you are free to join us.. or they might say yea..”  then tweet it out and see if others join you.   I do this all the time, I take a group of 2 and turn it into 10, a large group is great.
  17. Waiting in line at registration or at snack time  is a great way to connect – talk to the person ask:  “Where  are you from? or  What is your blog about?” people love to talk to others and feel less lonely.
  18. Avoid your click.. if you come with friends be sure to branch out.   You traveled to this conference to meet others and learn.
  19. Photos- take the opportunity to take photos with people who’s work you love. If you read a blog and the blogger is there ask if they would not mind a photos or take it with the conference organizers. Don’t say I don’t like my picture .. get comfortable and take them with people it will make your experience so much better.   You are amazing and beautiful so have your picture taken,  you are there for you and to grow.2 women
  20. Smile-  I know it is a simple idea but it really does make you more approachable

I view a conference as the chance to try to be the best person I am.  Not to be scared to talk and meet people.  Listen we are all nervous,  just extend a hand you might meet someone amazing.

You might not know but my husband is from a farming family. My husband was raised on a working dairy farm and his cousins currently raises pigs,  in fact his cousins has 5000 head of pigs.  I find the whole process of raising live stock fascinating since I have a more suburban upbringing.   It is a real interesting process the use of computer and technology is amazing,  I think every person should be allowed to see where there food comes from and meet the people who raise it.

There has been alot of debates on how are food is raised many sides to the story.

Adoption, Eat a Wendys frosty for a Good Cause!

Adopting is a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I have many wonderful friends and family who are adopted.  I consider the people who adopt and give children to be true angels.   My own life would not be the same if these angels have not touched the people I love.   There is no more self -less act then knowing you are unable to provide the best environment for your child and then allowing another to care for them.   Then the other angels (the adoptive family) taking on a child and caring as if they are are blood; came from there womb.  There is no greater gift to a child than accepting them in to your home and changing the course of there lives.

These people of and around adopting children  are Angels in my life and always will be!

So when Wendy’s asked me to spread the word about the    Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA, ) on Father’s Day weekend (June 16 & 17) promotion to benefit the cause I was all in …   50-cents from each Frosty purchase will be donated to DTFA.   It is this weekend tomorrow and Sunday Fathers Day!
