Guinness Nitro IPA Review

Guinness Nitro IPA : About 20 years ago, when I was in college my roommates and I turned 21. Every Thursday night we would head into the city and go to our favorite Irish pub Murphs. You know the place because you had the same Irish pub in our neighborhood. I might have been called O’Gradys, O’Sheas, or Mulligans but they were the same: crowded, great music, and Guinness. The thick dark beer with the smooth finish.

This past week I was taken back to a those college time, in a new way. My husband and I were invited to attended a dinner event for the new Guinness Nitro IPA. It was an event my husband jumped at going too because Guinness is his favorite draught. We could not wait to learn about the new IPA.

Before I get into the Guinness event –

What is a IPA?

It stands for India Pale Ale. The pronounced and unique flavor profile of IPA allows for a better understanding of brewing beer in general as hops and malts are often identified individually. (as defined from IPAbeer.com)

The Event was helds at Vesper a new renovated bar of years gone a formers mens drinking club, with a speakeasy in the basement. We entered using a special “secret” password, I could tell you but you know I would have too…. Guinness flew in Domhnall Marnell he is a Guinness Beer Ambassador to educated us on the the new brew. He really has a cool job talking about beer all day, fun right? He is paid to talking about beer something that makes people happy. LUCKY

What we learned :

Guinness™ Nitro IPA

What It Is: Guinness™ Nitro IPA is a hop-forward India Pale Ale with familiar Guinness traits like a creamy mouthfeel and thick head. Strong flavor coming from five different hop varieties is balanced and rounded out nicely by the nitrogenation of the beer. The nitrogenation also creates the signature surge and settle made famous by Guinness™ Draught. A rich, golden honey color comes from the roasting of premium barley.

The beer is brewed in Dublin at St. James’s Gate’s Brewhouse No. 4 (only the fourth brewhouse in the 256 year history of Guinness) and was developed by The Brewers Project – a small group of Guinness brewers charged with exploring, inventing and perfecting new beers. Guinness™ Nitro IPA will be available in the U.S. nationwide this fall.

Appearance: Golden honey color derived from the roasting of premium grade barley is revealed after the trademark Guinness surge and settle effect

Ingredients:
• Malt: Premium roasted barley & golden ale Malt
• Yeast: The same yeast famously used in Guinness™ Draught
• Bittering Hops: Admiral hops are added in the kettle to give it a subtle bitterness
• Aroma Hops:
o Topaz and Celeia hops in the whirlpool enrich the hoppy aroma
o Challenger, Cascade and Topaz hops are dry hopped late in the process to elevate the hoppy, citrus aromas

ABV/Bitterness/Color: 5.8% ABV; IBU 44; EBC 25
Format: Six-pack of 11.2 oz. cans, 13.2G keg
Calories: 154 calories per 11.2 fl oz. can
Serve: Best enjoyed straight from the can or served from the tap in a Guinness Gravity glass

• Draft: Traditional two-part pour using a Guinness Gravity Glass

Tasting Notes:
Traditional style IPA with hop forward flavors infused with nitrogen for a smooth, balanced finish.

The best way to pour the Guinness Nitro IPA Is to open the can wait 5-10 second for the Nitro to blend then pour at a 45 degree angle, for the perfect head on your beer.

Availability: Guinness™ Nitro IPA is available on shelves nationwide beginning in September 2015 and on tap in select bars across the U.S.

The new Guinness Nitro IPA is Guinness answer to the Americans love of IPAs but still true to the Guinness lovers smooth finish. My husband who in the past preferred a stout loves the new IPA it is lighter but very smooth like the Guinness he has always enjoyed.

The IPA was paired with some amazing food, There was a Beef Filet, Crab Cake, and a wonderful Caesar Salad. The food was lovely and married cleanly without weighing the meal down.

I have to say I love the Dark Chocolate Little Secrets Candy it is a more mature flavor. The dark chocolate was not the favorite of the kids. Which was fine because the Hubby and I hid ourselves away with the bags and watched movies without the kids. The peanut butter was similar to a certain candy made famous by a alien who want to use a cell phone but all natural.

The kids absolutely love the milk chocolate.

Little Secret: Natural Peanut Butter Candy Cookies

4 Ingredients: Peanut Butter Candy Cookies

1 eggs
1 cup of natural peanut butter
1 cup of natural sugar
1/2 cup of Little Secrets candies (any flavor)

Preheat oven 350
Mix ingredients (egg, sugar, peanut butter) blend well
Mix in Little Secrets candy
Scoop out cookies on to making sheet (12-18 cookies) (tip: spray scoop spoon with cooking spray help it not to stick)
Using a fork dipped in water then sugar make a crosshatch to push down cookie
Bake for 7-8 min
Take out an cool slightly before moving to wire rack to cool completely.

Tips for Budget Menu Planning with Teenagers: I cook every night and since the change in our life several years ago (my husband lost his job), I had to do budget friendly dinners. Now that he has a job, life is still a little tight because my business has slowed down. My family still eats well on a budget. I cook every night and going out to eat is a real treat.

I read a lot of meal menu planning on a budget.. I have noticed many of my blogging friends have 2 adults and 2 small children (under 8). I am well past that and I could not relate to make that small amount of food. I have 2 adults also 6’1″ 14 year old teenage boy, and a 10 year old girl with a size 9 women’s foot.. So no little kids here. My kids to not dabblers in food and they do not graze at dinner. My Son is a meat eater.. I gave him alot of veggies as a kid once he turned 9/10 years old veggies where a do not touch food and meat/fish was in.

Tips for Budget Menu Planning with Teenagers

Find Produce Store or Asia Market: I will tell you I live near a Produce Junction. Which is a produce store that sells veggies and produce at a discount, most are close to expiration so you have to use them quick. It saves me from the grocery store prices. Prices like 2 lb of crimini mushrooms for $2, Broccoli is $2 for 3lb, Potatoes are $2 for 5lb.

Stock up on Sales: I also watch good sales and stock up when something is good sale. This Past week Purdue chicken was 40% off. So I stocked up on ground chicken $2.57 a pound. The chicken legs and thighs were $.79 a lb. The turkey bacon was 3 for $5 (I use it for breakfast sandwiches and BLTS) , Cheese blocks 1.99 Here are Some other items:

Tortilla great for dinner but after school snacks
Can good -tomatoes, beans, soups, tuna, canned chicken,
Cereal I only buy it if it is under $1.99( buy many boxes if it is a good sale)
Box cake Mix (cupcakes not frosted are my kids favorite) (choose one that take oil, water, and eggs) (avoid the ones that need butter)
Butter if it is $1.99 or $2.50 stock up
Pop Corn Great snack (air popped or stove method) large bag is $3.00)
Cheese freezes well
Oil by gallon is cheaper then smaller bottles keep smaller bottle to transfer into
Soy sauce buy the gallon

Make Extra and spread out over the week:

Rice: a side one day, then a base for fried rice later in the week. (fried rice is a great catch all for left over meat, so are rice and chill.
Potatoes: Mashed are also side one day then, later in the week a great topping for shepherds pie.
Meat: Brown meat make double and save for later in the week

Meats that are amazing on a budget :

London Broils are great red meat cut for teens, I slice it really thin so it looks like a lot, taste great and I usually have left overs, vs a steak the teen will want to eat the entire piece.
Chicken legs and Thighs – They are great and the most flavorful part of the chicken. I trim all the fat off prior to cooking. You can always find them at a great Price. My son will eat a entire baked leg and extra thigh- (we are talking $1.50 to fill him). My recipe is here. I also trim the thighs up remove skin and throw them in a crock pot with bones, and 1/2 bottle of Italian dressing 1 cup of water and let them cook 3-4 hours on a Sunday. Pick out bones and joints- It makes great meat for chicken Quesadillas, Enchiladas, Chicken salad, soup, chicken tacos
Sausage: I always keep some in my freezer, whether is Kielbasa, Smoked sausage, or Italian sausage. They can be added to many meals, from Perogis, to pasta, slow cooked sausage and peppers over rice, or an add to fried rice.

Flavor is King : Taste is the way to eat on a budget and still have amazing food: If it taste good they will eat it.

Mirepoix: Onion, Carrots, Celery (when they are on sale, make extra, freeze and sales time and money)
Seasoning : Onion Power, Garlic Powder, Thyme, Cumin, Smoked Paprika, Oregano, Salt and Pepper

Pasta: Back up Dinner not a go to meal : If you serve pasta too often your family will notice. I use Spaghetti when I need a meal making break or when I end up with many teenagers in my house. I find if my son brings home friends I like to have the kids over but usaly I do not have the meat planned out for the surprise company.

Always have sauce/pasta in pantry.
Always have large can crushed tomatoes to extend the sauce.
Keep a package of mild sausage (Jimmy Dean Tube) in the freezer, or Links If you cut it small it goes father, 1lb of ground sausage spreads nicely through sauce.
Use shells to straight pasta, the sauce is cradled and the space in the shells visually look like more food.

I mainly shop at Aldi, Shoprite, with watching the sales at Pathmark, Acme and Giant (which I might go to if they have an amazing sale) . The prices i use reflect my Area.

Pulled chicken (removed skin, brown chicken place in crock pot with Italian dressing and one cup of water, and choped onions cooks low 4 hours), serve over rice and
Chicken noodle or rice soup use pulled chicken for broth and chicken add carrots and more onions
Fritta eggs milk tomato, carrots onions, cheese
Spaghetti with homemade sauce
Potato soup, onions, carrots, milk, chicken broth
Homemade Pizza Sandwiches
Creamy chicken and rice soup
Mac and Cheese
Egg Drop soup
Fried Rice with chicken carrots onions
chicken pot pies
Home Biscuits and gravy
Noodle bake
Baked ziti
Loaded baked potatoes
Chicken Pasties

You will need to stock up on chicken but you can make any meal listed above. Jusr keep the pantry and fridge stocked and you will always have a go to.

Menu Planning: This week is our last week of summer since the kids start next week. So we just received teacher assignments and school supply list. I never understood why they send the schedules and list out last minute. I spend the last week of summer running around and miss every sale on school supplies. My daughter is so excited to be entering the 5th grade. My son well, high school he is a moody teenager fickle about everything. I am not sure I am look forward towards this year or not the teenage years can be hard.. I will remain positive and hopeful.

How to Make The Best Fried Rice

How to make the best fried rice using left over rice, how to make crispy fried rice

I make fried rice I make 6 cups which is way too much for one meal for my family. Left over rice is a great staple for other meals in my family. I make rice every time I make Tacos as a great way to stretch a meal. My family loves a little rice in taco or soft taco just like a Chipolte burrito. Since I make 6 cups I know that we will have another Rice meal that week. My family’s favorite is fried rice which is a great way to use up left overs in a new meal.

The key to a great left over fried rice is the crispy part of the fried along with well done saute onions. How do you get the rice crispy is tossing your left over rice in corn starch.

Best Fried Rice Recipe

Ingredients

3-5 cups of left over rice
1/4cup of Corn starch (Coat Rice)
1/4 cup oil vegetable or corn oil
2 onions chopped
3-4 carrots
2 eggs (we love eggs in fried rice)
2 tablespoon of sugar
1/4 cup of soy sauce or to taste
3 cloves of garlic chopped

Options:

Leftover steak, chicken, ham
Shrimp
spam (don’t knock it if you have it)
Pineapple chunks
Vegetables (frozen or fresh ) Broccoli, California blends, snow peas
Minced Garlic

Place left over rice in a large bowl, I use my hands to break up rice chunks so it is loose
Toss in corn starch and make sure rice is well covered – set aside
Cut Carrots and onions diced
Fry in a large frying pan 2 table spoons of oil, fry onion and carrots til brown – remove and place in a dish on the side
Add more oil to pan coating bottom of pan, when hot add rice, soy mix, and sugar together quick
then wait more
Wait do not move rice till it starts to get crispy, then flip allowing all the rice to get great color and crispy.
Wait more for crispy then flip (it takes time 15-20min)
Add onions, carrots, and any meat or veggies in when rice is almost all rice crispy
Right before ready to served clear a space in the pan to fry the eggs up.
Allow the scrambled eggs to cook and then break them up and mix in rice and serve.

Arden Summer Camp Review

Arden Summer Camp Review: My daughter had the opportunity to go to Arden Theater’s Drama Summer camp. She loved this camp, I really can’t say enough hope much my daughter enjoyed every moment. She beyond excited to attend the 1st day, only to return at the end of the day bubbling about how awesome, amazing, and fun the day of drama was.

The campers days included a fun schedule of theater classes. The children had acting classes with included improvisation, script writing, dance, and movement. My daughter adored Sam the acting teacher. Stating unequivocally Sam was “the best teacher” she’s ever had even at school. She would chatter on about Sam for the 20+ minute drive home.

The campers learned different type of dances from the shuffle, 2 step and more. I was able to observe a dance class with the younger children(grades 1st-4th.) I love photographing the pure joy that came out of every child it the dance room. They had a real music teacher who sang the songs and played them on the piano instead of using a recorded song, it was like a rehearsal at a adult theater.

The theme of the week was Superheroes. Which we loved. The children participated in a craft class, they created their own superhero identity. My daughter designed her own superhero persona named “Luna Wolf” complete with emblem and costume design. She was so happy to show me the crafts she created at the end of the week.

Each Day a group children create a scene and preform the scene in front of their camp-mates. At the end of a groups performance the other children shared a positive comments about their peers performances. Which gave all the children to preform at a level the were comfortable with and get feedback in a safe place. By the end of the week, my daughter was gaining real drama skills. With these new found acting abilities, I could see them translates to creating a confidant public speaker. The Arden Staff does a wonderful job of nurture growth in a positive creative way. Bravo !

As a parent I think the Arden Drama camp is amazing. From the moment you walk in the building the helper escorts your child to a classroom, every member of the staff is warm and inviting. The staff shares the daily schedule with you in the form of a handout. I found the handout to be a great allowing for actually talking points with your child. My daughter could give me a full review over dinner of her action packed day of drama camp.

The Drama camp was held at the Hamilton Family Arts Center which is the Arden’s Drama School location right next store to the Theater. The building is new and spotless. Great big spaces that allow for movement.

As a parent, my biggest concern was having to park to get my child everyday (hassle of looking for a spot, parking fees.. ect). The Arden Staff turned those concerns in to a non-issue.

Drop Off: The front of the school was a loading zone, you can run in and drop your child off.

Pick up procedure for the end of the day of camp was great (I never parked.) End of the day pick up: The BEST, you assign a “password” for your child at the start of camp. Then end of each day the Arden has a “drive by pick up” at the main theater. A counselor comes out and asks the child’s name and the child’s password. Only the people on your pick up are on the list and must have the password to pick up your child. The Staff verifies password & adults name, then the Arden Staff Member walks your child outside, and puts them in your car. Simple and Efficient.. no parking needed.

Arden Summer Camp Review: It was a amazing experience. Any child will be lucky to attend this camp, it is a fun learning experience that allows a child to grow and develop in a interactive way. My daughter is already asking to go back next year.

Whiffer Sniffers Review We were recently provided Whiffer Sniffers for a review disclosure I did receive them for a review. What are the Whiffer Sniffers? Remember those great scratch and sniff stickers that you use to put on your notebooks in grade school. You would scratch them and smell the stickers, the little smell would get through the next math problem. Whiffer sniffers are smelly plush that smell just like those stickers from your childhood!! I know awesome.

When the salesman Dave came I did not expect to my pleasure I received an education in windows, and how they can affect your home.

You can loose the majority of heat through the windows in your home. Dave the Window Nations salesman showed me using a heat lamp and a heat reading sensor how the different types of glass pains and gas can affect the heat that escapes from your house. The window industry standard that is 36% heat loss, my original windows in my home the one I am looking to replace (single pain) window let a whopping 91% of heat loss. The salesman Dave was super great he taught me in the last 10 years the window industry has really changed. 10 Years ago my husband I replaced all the windows except this large picture window, so I had some knowledge of what what I did not want.

The first thing Dave taught me was the fit of a windows and insulation is one the most important concern when purchasing a window. (My old windows my husband measured.) Because if you have a great window, does not fit and it is installed improperly you can loose all heat or air condition just leaks out the sides.

Window Nations windows are fitted to 1/8 of an inch, they sent a Window Nation Measure Tech who work for at the manufacture to measure the window so it fits perfect. The salesman is not the same person who measures so your window, they spend the time in having a person come dbl check the measurements, taken at the original sales call to ensure your replacement windows with be made to your exact home. I liked the idea measure twice make once.

Then the Window Nations installers use a flexible latex insulation (OSI) that creates a seal around the windows that grows, expands, but also shrinks when need with the home. The latex insulation is important because if you have the wrong foam that expands too much it can actually push out the window, is what both Dave the salesman and John the installer explained. It makes sense, your house is change with the whether so should the space around your windows. Better efficiency better quality.

What to expect from Replacement Window Installation:

John was in my home for 2 hours installing my window, installation, and then wrapping the window. It was profession done and nothing was out of place when they left.

The Result :

We have lived with our new Window Nation window for the month. Hello beautiful view ! Out my beautiful window, where I sit at my desk everyday enjoying my windows that open, and I can close them to keep out the heat. I am never driven out by the rays of the sun because the heat stays outside on a 90 degree day. The week in April the window was installed the the temperature dropped into the 30’s.

The first night my husband came home he from work said “WOW, I can feel the difference it is less drafty.”

It has made a huge difference in our electric bill and how much more we enjoy our home. I seriously want them to come back at some point and replace the windows I replaced 10 years ago. All I can say is amazing change in our home thanks to Window Nation, it is the prettiest and largest window in our home great job.
